HUNTING
We hunt using a variety of methods depending on game sought, client wishes and capabilities. Our large variety of trophy species inhabit many different types of fauna and therefor we utilize different hunting strategies for different game.
Spot and Stalk: We have several specially designed 4 wheel drive ‘Safari vehicles’ where hunters and guides have an elevated comfortable seat in the bed of the truck to spot game. As our farm is organized in passible rudimentary roads every one or two square miles we have literally hundreds of miles of back roads that we own and use exclusively to spot game from a distance. Once game has been spotted it is up to the guide and client to decide stalking strategy based on game movement, wind conditions, cover and water source. Stalks can be anywhere from 20 minutes to 6 hours. Hunting Stands: Namibia is a dry place. We maintain over 40 windmill fed waterholes across our land. These waterholes make excellent locations for Hunting stands for our clients. The stands range from very comfortable European design ‘elevated hides’ to more rustic tree stands and ground blinds. There is no more magic place on earth to watch a sunset than from an elevated hunting stand in Africa waiting for that trophy Kudu. Tracking: The San Bushman have made a living tracking African game for over 1000s of years. It is truly an honor to participate in their art. Tracking is not for everyone. It involves long distances, sometimes several miles a day. The terrain is fairly flat, but often thickly covered in bush and can be challenging. However, the reward makes it all worthwhile. Very few people on earth will get a chance to experience this type of hunting with such unique and talented guides. The heart of our hunting team consists of several native San Bushman guides who live on our farm with their families. The Bushman people are revered for hunting and tracking skills honed in this very region of Namibia over literally thousands of years. The Bushman culture is the longest running culture on earth and we are proud to work with them to utilize their skills to assist our visiting hunters. Hunting with the Bushman is literally an experience of a lifetime. |
A TYPICAL HUNTING DAY
As we do so many types of hunting for so many different trophies it is difficult to describe any day as ‘typical’ but we will try:
Most hunting days on the farm begin well before daylight with a hot breakfast in the dining room with your hosts and senior staff. Often the day’s general plan will have been a discussion topic around the dinner table the previous night, but weather is a factor in all hunting plans so the day is not often finalized until the morning of the hunt. As our farm encompasses a vast territory it often requires a 20-40 minute drive to the hunting area. In the case of a hunting stand or tracking hunt the final half mile or so will be on foot to avoid disturbing the hunting area. |
